We met him when he attended the first LomoWalk of Lomography Indonesia back in June and recently we sent him our very own art lens, the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 2.8/32 black edition to try out. Stay tuned and read his thoughts on trying this lens for the first time and see his cool shots too!
Hi, Andris! It’s great to have you here at Lomography! Please tell us about yourself.
Hi, my name is Andris. I’m from Bandung, West Java. I am a telecommunication engineer also a singer-songwriter and photography enthusiast.
How do you spend your week?
It’s delightful these days. I just tried out and enjoyed the lens that you sent and I’m also working on my new music project. I hope it can finish soon. My week is just a regular 9 to 5 on work days. I work on my music projects and spend my weekend chilling and hanging out with my wife and friends.
How do you describe your photography? Do you have any photographers that you look up to?
Actually I don't have any boundaries that restrict my photography to a category, I just take whatever I like. I really like Hideaki Hamada and I like some movie directors, like Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan and also the great Stanley Kubrick. I think the photography that I like has a similarity with some movies that I watched in the past.
We sent you the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 2.8/32 Art Lens Black to try out. What were your first impressions and in what ways does using this lens differ from your usual photographic method?
My first impression is WOW! This lens is very thin, like some other artisan pancake lens such as MS optics lens. It’s not very often I use a ‘wide’ lens and surprisingly, I had so much fun using this lens!
First it works amazing with my Leica M camera. Second, it's quite easy to operate for a first timer using a Lomo lens like me. Last thing, it looks gorgeous paired with my Leica M camera!
What is your favorite feature or characteristic of the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 2.8/32 Art Lens Black? How did it feel to shoot with it?
This lens has unique characteristics, it’s quite similar to the Lomo LC-A camera. The bokeh character is vintage and I love vintage things. The Lomography vignette effect is very unique! Just one nitpick from me the focusing tab is quite a hassle to operate, but yeah I can adapt and live with it. I feel it can be my daily beater lens.
Could you tell us about the locations and stories behind these photographs?
These photos were taken from several different location, just regular weekends that I spent with my wife and friends. I’m not necessarily taking pictures on special occasions and events. I just go out, bring my camera and take whatever I like. Its just my daily life story.
Do you have a favorite shot from those you took with the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 2.8/32 Art Lens Black ?
Ah yes, the photo with the kid and the balloon behind her. I don't know, I thought I just want to represent the ‘happiness’ from the kid's perspective.
Where do you think is the most suitable location for shooting with the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 2.8/32 Art Lens Black?
When the sun is bright any location is just fine.
What do you think sets this lens apart from others?
The lens design and look itself already represents where the lens comes from. It's very unique.
Do you have any tips or tricks for shooting with the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 2.8/32 Art Lens Black ?
Don’t think just shoot! The more you use it the more you understand the capability of this lens. You can explore any kind photography with this lens. And one more tip – be fast!
What is one thing you have been dying to explore further (anything from a place to a particular subject)? What is your dream project?
I really want to explore 8mm or 16mm camera formats. My dream project is to produce and direct my very own music video. I am also looking forward to trying more unique lenses from Lomography.
