Bandung-based photographer and long time community member, Andaru Waskito Bebop recently tried the Lomo LC-A with our Lomography Color Negative ISO 400 and LomoChrome Purple Pétillant film. His story with Lomography goes way back, with the La Sardina being his first camera ever. Not along ago Andaru delighted us with his stunning portraits with our newest film, LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed 35 mm. This time, he shares a glimpse of his everyday life as a full-time photographer, documenting his daily routines with the Lomo LC-A. Check out his spontaneous shots and read his thoughts in this interview!

Hi! It’s great to have you here again at Lomography! Can you introduce yourself for those who don't already know you?

Hello, thanks for having me again, Lomography team. My name is Andaru Waskito Bebop. I’m a photographer based in Indonesia. I’m also a long-time fan of Lomography.

What's your favorite thing about analogue photography?

There’s no delete button. It makes you approach every frame with intention and care.

How do you describe your style of photography?

I’d like to think that my photography shows honesty. I aim to capture genuine moments and emotions, without over-manipulating the scene or the subject. For me it’s about portraying things as they truly are. I always enjoy shooting portraits, but I’m beginning to feel comfortable doing street photography, although I’m still learning.

Do you have any film photographers that you look up to?

I’m a fan of Joe Greer, Yoshiyuki Okuyama, and Shin Noguchi to name a few. But as a longtime Lomographer myself, I should also mention @ccwu in the Lomography community.

You mainly take portraits in your work. What do you consider most important when taking portraits?

I think it’s important to understand the intention behind the portraits. It helps guide everything from the setting to the lighting, and how you interact with the subject as well. Having a clear purpose ensures that the final image aligns closely with the preparation process.

How do you spend a typical week?

My daily activity revolves around sport and photography. I play tennis twice a week, do some short runs, and do some photography projects. I’ve been collaborating with a model agency lately.

How did you like shooting with the Lomo LC-A? What do you like most about the camera?

I remember in 2011 when I first fell in love with photography, the Lomo LC-A was the dream. Now that I’ve tried it, it’s a true Lomography experience. It is very compact in size, zone focusing at its finest, vivid lens, and I like the conversation about it.

Can you tell us about what you decided to shoot with the Lomo LC-A? What do you think about the results?

I tried to follow one of the Lomography golden rules, so I took the camera everywhere that I went. I documented my daily life, when I visited sites, when I ran, and I took some photos of my wife as well. I love the result! It brings so much joy.

What do you think is the perfect situation for shooting this camera?

A sunny day on the street with a lot happening at the same time. You only have to adjust the focusing and shoot.

What do you like most about the LomoChrome Purple 35 mm ISO 100–400 film ?

I like the surprises it brings. I always know it’s going to be purple, but still, seeing a green tree turn purple is surprising.

I tried not to think too much. I let the film do the magic. But after seeing the result, I want to try it on the beach or mountain. I think this film will bring so much character.

What is one thing you have been dying to explore further (anything from a place to a particular subject)? What is your dream project?

I want to go to Lomography HQ and shoot the company profiles! But seriously, I want to visit Europe one day. Maybe go to Iceland or Switzerland.

Tell us about some of the current projects you are working on.

I have a commissioned project from a magazine in Europe, and they wanted me to go this classified country. I will shoot on film for the whole project. I’m very excited about it.
