If you live in Paris and if you’re into fashion, chances are that you have heard about Caroline’s blog at least once. But, we don’t think that you’ve met all the celebrities she was lucky enough to spot in the last months. She’s travelling all around the world with her Diana, from a fashion show to another one… Read more after the jump.
Name : Caroline Back de Surany (Caroline Daily)
Please introduce yourself in a few words…
Dilettante and paradoxical, I’m into a lot of things, from fashion to contemporary art, from writing to photography, from art direction to blogging, from meditation to fashion shows…
How long have you been a lomographer ?
I started when the New York fashion week started, so that must be february… it’s been five months now !
Please describe your Diana in 5 words
Unpredictable, fun, retro, décalé (shifted), arty
The strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had.
My very first picture : I was waiting for someone kind of special, someone who would give a tone and an idea of what my pictures would be. I couldn’t ask for more as on the first day with my Diana, I stumbled upon Ed Westwick, a definitive sex symbol today, who’s playing Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl, during the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show in New York. I had to be super quick : I was the only one who could take a picture of him, and we laughed a lot, as the flash of the Diana completely blinded him… Now I can say that I blinded the guy that all the girls are dreaming of !
If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please).
Writer’s block, Just Jack
Eight, Chew Lips
In my spaceship, Jan Turkenburg
If you could take your camera and a sack of film anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
In India, to create multiple exposures of unexplored landscapes.
The one person (living or deceased) who you would most like to photograph.
I prefer living people, I don’t really like deceased people, it smells quite bad. So I’d say Jane Birkin, because she seems to be a very bright person.
Tell us a little bit about the pictures we can see here…
Some of these pics were taken during the Fashion week in New York, London, Milan and Paris. It’s an art project on celebrities. Some others were taken after a simple idea : just a bunch of girls having fun . And you can also see my new Diana laying on the sand in the desert. This is one of my favorite pictures.
What are your current projects ?
The pictures you can see here are part of a series of celebrities, as if they were seen through a key hole. I (accidentally at first) misused a lens in my Diana that creates a black circle around all my photos. Pictures are taken very up close, and sometimes focused on the mouth or on the eyes, to give a closeness feeling. with these “untouchable” people. I also did a fashion photoshoot for a magazine with my Diana, but with film this time, not with instant pics.
Your advice to all lomographers ?
Trust your fortune, and just have fun with your camera without asking too much questions.
Thanks to Caroline for sharing some of these instant pictures with us (some of which we definitely would have for us) !
