Lukasz Marciniak Explores Budapest Through the Lomomatic 110 Lens

Although mostly occupied with fashion and editorial photography, Łukasz Marciniak is not afraid of trying out new formats and scenery. Our Lomomatic 110 accompanied him throughout his trip to Budapest earlier this spring. In this interview, Łukasz walks us through his photographic endeavors and his experience with the pocket-size film camera.

Hi Łukasz, we are very happy to have you in our online magazine! Could you tell us more about yourself and your experience with photography?

Hi, I'm very glad to be featured in your magazine. I feel honored. I started to be interested in photography in high school, but due to the lack of easy access to information, I had to wait until I was older to start taking pictures.

My journey was quite laborious at the beginning, because I was self-taught and, since this was the time of analogue photography, one could only get knowledge from books that were written in a rather difficult technical language. I went back to digital photography in college, and since then I've turned my hobby into a full-time job.

Why do you prefer analogue photography?

With the rise of the AI revolution, I decided to go against the flow and return to analogue photography after a 15-year break. About 10 years ago, when magazines were still doing well and there were a lot more printed ones, I had the pleasure of shooting analogue.

Film allows me to slow down and get more joy from photography, and the development process itself is very relaxing for me :)

We had the pleasure of sending you a Lomomatic 110 — what was your first impression upon receiving the camera? Have you had the opportunity to photograph with the 110 format before?

This was my first contact with the 110 format. And my first impressions upon receiving the camera? It is well made and super pocketable. Also, it has a lovely shutter release sound :)

Do you have a favorite photo from your trip to Budapest captured with the Lomomatic 110?

I like all the photos very much. I'm a huge fan of the frame around the photo through which you can see a part of the picture. If I had to narrow down my choice, I would choose the portrait I took, the photo of the observation wheel against the light where I managed to catch a very nice flare, and maybe the photo of the streetcar :)

Do you have any advice for people starting their adventure with this model?

Check the setting of the focusing distance because among all the fun that the camera gives you, it is easy to forget about it :)

What do you think of Color Tiger 110 ISO 200 film?

This is definitely a film for me because it has a warm tone, and it renders skin color very nicely.

What makes you press the shutter button?

I do it professionally with models, actors, etc., but since I started a channel on YouTube, I rediscovered the fun of shooting everyday, ordinary people, or city streets.

Is there anything you would like to pass on to Lomographers around the world?

Do not be afraid to try new things, break the patterns, and follow your intuition.
