Pecil and the Lomomatic 110: Bringing Fun Back to Film Photography
3 4For Pecil photography isn’t just a hobby—it’s her secret escape, her therapy, and her favorite way to tell stories when words just aren’t enough. Her journey with photography began back in 2007 with a Holga that sparked a lifelong love affair with analogue. In 2011, she upgraded to her first manual camera, a trusty Canonet QL, and things got serious from there. Six years and countless rolls of film later, she released her first photo book, Moksa —a deeply personal collection capturing her emotions, thoughts, and quiet rebellions through her photos. Recently, we sent her our Lomomatic 110 along with the Color Tiger 110 ISO 200 & LomoChrome Metropolis 110 film. Let's read her first impressions of this powerful pocket camera!

Hello Pecil and welcome to Lomography's online magazine! Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your photographic journey?
Hey, thanks for having me! I’m Pecil—photographer, storyteller, and lover of all things analogue. My journey with photography started of pure curiosity. I’ve always been drawn to the magic of capturing a moment that can never be exactly repeated. When I first started with analogue cameras, I fell in love with film—the unpredictability, the textures, the way it forces you to slow down. Since then, it’s been a never-ending adventure of experimenting with different formats, cameras, and films.
How do you typically spend your week?
Right now, my days are a mix of creative chaos and peaceful moments. Some days I’m out shooting, chasing the perfect light, or experimenting with new film stocks. On other days, I’m developing film, scanning negatives, or simply geeking out over vintage cameras. I also love spending time in coffee shops, journaling, and finding inspiration in everyday life.
We sent you the new Lomomatic 110 to try out. What were your first impressions and in what ways does using this camera differ from your usual photographic method?
First impression? This little guy is a pocket-sized powerhouse! I love how compact it is—it’s literally something I can carry everywhere without a second thought. Unlike my usual 35 mm or medium format cameras that require a bit more planning, the Lomomatic 110 feels like a fun, spontaneous companion. It’s all about capturing moments as they happen, without overthinking.
What is your favorite feature or characteristic of the Lomomatic 110 ?
The built-in lens cover that also acts as an on/off switch is such a cool detail! It makes the whole experience super seamless. Also, the automatic exposure system works surprisingly well, even in tricky lighting!
Were you previously familiar with the 110 format?
Yes, I’m familiar with the 110 format, but I hadn’t shot with it in a while. Using it again reminded me why I love it—small negatives, yes, but packed with character and charm. It’s like rediscovering an old friend!
Can you tell us about your past experience shooting with 110? What do you like most about the format?
I remember getting my hands on Diana Baby camera years ago, and it felt like stepping into a time machine. The best thing about the 110 format is how it makes photography feel effortless. It’s not about technical perfection—it’s about capturing the moment, embracing the quirks, and just having fun.
Do you have a favorite shot from your experience with the Lomomatic 110?
I’ve always been drawn to reflections and mirrors, how they frame the world in such a subtle, poetic way. In this shot, you can see the reflection, almost like a second layer of reality, which I love.

I’m also fascinated by observing people from a distance. The photo below captures exactly that: a bunch of strangers enjoying the ocean, each lost in their own little story. It feels like watching a scene from a film, and the Lomomatic 110 gave it this beautiful, nostalgic texture that makes it even more special

How did you like shooting with the Color Tiger 110 ISO 200 ?
Loved it! The colors are punchy but not overly saturated, and the fine grain makes the images look super crisp for such a tiny format. It handled different lighting conditions really well, too.
We also sent you the LomoChrome Metropolis 110 ISO 100-400 (2021 Formula). How was your experience shooting it?
Metropolis is such a vibe! The muted tones and moody contrast give everything this cool, almost dystopian feel. It’s like stepping into an old movie. I especially loved using it for street photography—it made everyday scenes look so cinematic.
Have you found that shooting with a 110 camera changed any of your photographic perspectives or habits?
Definitely! It reminded me to stop overthinking and just shoot. With bigger formats, I tend to be more careful and calculated, but 110 let me be more spontaneous. It’s a great reminder that photography is supposed to be fun!
Any tips and tricks for shooting with the Lomomatic 110?
Embrace the grain! 110 film has a distinct look, and that’s part of its charm. Get close! Since the negatives are small, filling the frame will give you stronger compositions. Play with lighting. This camera shines with bold contrasts and strong colors. Try shooting in golden hour or neon-lit streets for magical results. Always bring an extra battery. Trust me and thank me later.
What are your hopes for the future of the 110 format?
I’d love to see more film stocks being developed for 110! It’s such a fun and accessible format, and I think more people would fall in love with it if they gave it a try.
Any messages to other Lomographers out there?
Keep shooting, keep experimenting, and most importantly—have fun! Lomography is all about embracing the unexpected, so don’t stress over “perfect” shots. Some of the best photos come from happy accidents.
Anything else you'd like to share?
Just a big thank you to Lomography for keeping the film alive and fun! And to anyone who hasn’t tried the 110 format yet—go for it! You’ll be surprised at how much creativity can fit into such a tiny frame.
