Disc 2013

Much to my surprise, my local film lab was able to develop Kodak Disc film, expired in 1995 and shot recently with a very simple plastic-lensed Disc camera. If you believe Google, the only way to have those developed nowadays, is by sending them off to one of a few remaining labs in the US or the UK, or to Film Rescue International in The Netherlands, who will do it for 48 Euros in 6 weeks to 3 months time. A film lab right here in Amsterdam did it in a day and charged € 7,50. They themselves didn’t know they could do it, but they thought it was a nice experiment. The quality of the pictures is crappy, which is the main reason why the system flopped in the first place, but it’s a nice idea that these films, which haven’t been produced since 1999, can still easily and quickly be developed. I have nine unexposed Kodak Disc films left in the fridge.
