I remember standing in the rain at pitches like this, watching my son play. I played on a few of these too. Reminds me of playing on Hackney Marshes in the pissing down rain, up to my ankles in mud.

@malcolm_tremain I'm glad you commented on this one, thanks. This is about 20 miles from home , I last played on this pitch over 40 years ago. A county school final, felt like the FA cup final for us, our school had less than 200 pupils, the team came from practically one class. I remember it so well, the weather was the same as it is here, atrocious, we won the game 2-0, I remember who scored, I remember the pride and elation going back to school and the joy of our headmaster who was a sports fanatic, good times. I was 11 and went on to play for another 20 years on pitches much like this one, most of them much worse:) thanks Malcolm.

@charliedontsurf Compared to some of the pitches I played on this is Wembley! A lot of games I played at primary school were on horrible ash and grit pitches, not grass. You couldn't do slide tackles on them because you'd tear all the skin off your legs. I remember winning the East London Primary Schools cup, we won 2-0 in pissing down rain. Things got better when I went to grammar school because we played on grass. Anyway, this is a very evocative picture.
