Initially, I thought about this set as reflective of 'penitencia' - a Holy Week practice among religious and devotees to undergo suffering or inflict pain to the body as a form of penitence/penance. Took self-portraits experimenting with various textures used as masks, lights and street vignettes. But with the present flooding that has turned Metro Manila and neighboring provinces into a real waterworld, I think this set clearly expresses my own emotional suffering. I pray that tomorrow, the weather will be much better, that floods all over Luzon will recede fast and that affected people will soon regain normalcy in their disrupted lives. I believe hope is such a powerful energy. The Filipino spirit is waterproof!
