Another walk around Kiev. with an Olympus camera. I really like taking pictures of random people. I like taking pictures of just life in Kiev. These are the people who sleep every night under the missiles of the fascist federation. But they never stop smiling, loving and rejoicing.
You know what? These shots are from the wonderful and magical Vyriy festival. They might look strange to you, but to me — they turned out exactly the way they were meant to. They are, in the truest sense, alive. Shot on film, and on an exposure I never actually planned to set. I just didn’t notice what mode I was shooting in. But by the end of the evening, I realized — and thought: “Well, why not.” At that moment my soul was filled with love and music.
Honestly, there are some frames that were worth taking just so they could exist in this world and before my eyes. And what’s more surprising — there are more than two of them that I really like!
These photos were taken on a Yashica GSN 35 in B mode — meaning the shutter stays open as long as your finger is pressing it. How long do you think that is? Chat told me it’s around 1/30 of a second, while in daylight you’d usually need 1/500–1/700. Quite a difference, right?
And on top of that, I was using ISO 400 Ultra Max film, which gets plenty of light on a sunny day. Damn… As someone told me: “You’ll have plenty of sharp shots. But ones like these — you might never dare to take, because you’d be too afraid to waste film.” And that’s the truth. I’d probably never have done this. Well, maybe with preparation, with an ND filter, not wide open like this. It felt like madness, like burning the film for nothing.
But the shots came out. And they’re just pure cosmos. See for yourself.
