View of the city Zadonsk and Zadonsk Nativity Virgin Monastery
Zadonsk - the city (from 1779) in Russia, the administrative center of Zadonsk district of Lipetsk region. Located within the Upland in a picturesque area on the left bank of the Don River, in close proximity to the main highway M4 «Don», 60 km from Lipetsk.
Zadonsk Nativity Virgin Monastery (founded in 1610) - monastery founded in the city of Zadonsk of Voronezh province (now Zadonsk district of Lipetsk region), on the left bank of the Don. The monastery was founded by two elders, ascetics, Cyril and Gerasim, came from the Moscow Sretensky monastery, which brought about in 1610 a copy of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, later famous as miraculous. The first wooden church in honor of the Presentation of the Vladimir Icon of Our Lady of monks founded on the banks of the river Teshevki at the confluence with the Don.
