My grandfather enlisted in the navy the day before the Japanese surrendered in 1945. He was initially stationed at the Naval Hospital in Chelsea MA, but after he went AWOL to go to his sisters High School graduation he was transferred to the Naval Hospital at Gauntanamo Bay Cuba.
