DeadVlei is a white clay pan in the salt pan of Sossusvlei, in a valley between the dunes in the Namib-Naukluft Park in the Namib Desert. The "dead marsh" used to be a river bed, but when the climate changed and sand dunes cut off the water source, the heat was so intense that it scorched the trees black. The trees died 600-700 years ago and are known as skeleton trees.
Above Hnanice (a short distance from the Havran Settlement), there is a hill with a beautiful view and two chapels. Temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius, strong, blinding sun, steppe vegetation, rocky outcrops, silence and sweat everywhere you can think of. Summer vibe. (Noblex 135 S, Ilford PAN F dev. ADOX XT-3)
The summer kitchen/bathhouse/root cellar was brought from Pärdi farm in Mälja village. Built in 1906 and relocated to the museum in 1973, the stone building in the so-called Muhu style is an example of the craftsmanship of local stonemasons, who between 1890 and 1940 earned their living by constructing stone buildings on the islands and mainland.
Buildings made by Muhu stonemasons are distinguished by precise masonry and an interesting selection of stones. Particularly valued was the so-called “blue stone” – dark grey cobblestones with a bluish tint. The choice of stone as a building material on Muhu was inevitable: stone was widely available, while timber was scarce.
