Koinobori

After spending three days exploring Fukuoka, we finally picked up our motorbike and set our course for Beppu. Instead of taking the direct route, we followed the Tsuetate River towards Mount Aso, eager to see one of Japan's most active volcanoes. When we arrived, however, the crater was closed. Earlier that year, a sightseeing helicopter carrying tourists had crashed into the crater, and the area had been shut down. It was a surreal and sobering moment that cast a different light over an otherwise spectacular place. Even without being able to reach the crater, the vast volcanic scenery and winding mountain roads made the detour unforgettable. We were greeted by a herd of cows grazing peacefully along the roadside.
