This album is a visual journey through the district of Kaunas I’ve called home since 2007. Šilainiai is one of the largest, most densely populated, and most recognizable districts in Kaunas. While many locals associate it primarily with being a "sleeping district," Šilainiai possesses a unique character and a deeper history than it might first appear.Construction of Šilainiai began in 1982 as a modern Soviet residential district. Although it may look like a forest of concrete blocks at first glance, the area was meticulously planned. Šilainiai is divided into sections (Šilainiai 1, 2, 3, etc.). The area is dominated by 5, 9, and even 12–16 story apartment buildings. The district is built on a high terrace above the Neris River, offering impressive panoramic views of Kaunas from the upper floors. Despite the district's modern appearance, historical treasures are hidden within its boundaries: the 8th and 9th forts of the Kaunas Fortress, remnants of manorhouses.
