Ziesar - St.Crucis

No. 1 6 7 - Taken with the 30 Years expired Plus-X Pan (!) - The Holy Cross Church (Latin Ecclesia Sanctae Crucis 'Church of the Holy Cross') was built between 1200 and 1240 as a classic cross church. St. Crucis was constructed from locally available field stones. In 1540, after the Reformation, the Ziesar monastery was dissolved and converted into a women's monastery before it was also dissolved in 1562. Ziesar was destroyed twice during the Thirty Years' War. During the First World War, two bells were melted down for weapons production. In 1925, three new ones were purchased from Apolda as replacements. During the Second World War, three bells were used for war purposes. In 1953 the neo-Gothic roof turret was removed from the church tower due to its dilapidation. Further restorations took place in the following years.
