I think I've always taken 'mental' snapshots of things I see. When I was younger, I tried photography but was never happy with the results. Everything always seemed so sharp and so real... not at all the way I saw the real.
When I got my first lomographic camera (a holga) as a gift, I didn't know what to think, but when I saw the types of images it could make, I knew this was the camera for me.
