Nieumarkt early on Queen's Day 2012
A temporary fairground on Amsterdam's Nieumarkt (New Market) early in the morning. The old buiding on the top left and right corners of this photo is ‘De Waag’. Built in 1488, it was a part of the old city wall. This is now the only monument left marking the boundary of the old city. In the past and through different times of its history, it has been used as a weighing house, a place where human dissections were performed, and as a museum (amongst other uses). It now houses a cafe-restaurant downstairs, with creative office spaces upstairs.
