Happenings on Film: At the Start of the Tour of Lombardy with My Fed 3
2 Share TweetThis month, after waiting for three years, my city Como hosted the Tour of Lombardy, an important event in the male elite road cycling tour. With my Fed 3 loaded with black and white film and equipped with ultra sharp Industar 50/3.5 lens, I documented the parade of cyclists who went to the starting line after they registered. Take a look after the jump!
The Tour of Lombardy, also called the Giro di Lombardia in Italian, is an old cycling race that was first held in 1905. It’s also known as the “classic of the dead leaves” because it takes place during the first days of autumn. In 2014, after a pause of three years, this race returned to Como.
In the morning of October 5, the cyclists were welcomed by a marching band when they went onstage at the Piazza Cavour (Cavour’s Square) to register.
Meanwhile, many people took their places behind the barriers to wait for the parade of many famous cyclists in the world.
A little farther on, a group of cycling enthusiasts waited for their favorites near the starting line.
In the photos below, you can see some cyclists reaching Piazza Cavour to register.
Here you can see the recent World Champion Michal Kwiatkowski reaching the starting line.
The parade lasted about an hour, during which was an opportunity to take a good number of photos of these great champions!
Many of them stopped for a moment to greet their friends.
On this joyful Sunday morning, many fans stopped to watch the event while riding their bicycles.
Almost all fans remained until the passage of the van (camion balais) at the tail of the race.
All these photos were taken with my Fed 3 rangefinder camera loaded with Iflord FP4+ film.
