Name: Ernest Zacharevic
Location: Malaysia

  • How long have you been a Lomographer? Or are you new to the world of Lomography?

The Sprocket Rocket is the first Lomo camera I ever had.

  • Describe the Sprocket Rocket in five words.

Simple, fun, fast, hipster, WIDE.

  • What’s the most unforgettable experience you’ve had in analogue photography?

Photography was not really a part of my university curriculum, but still I spent countless hours in the university’s darkroom when I was a student. I can’t even describe how much I enjoyed messing around with chemicals and abusing the paper supplies provided by the university. Developing film you don’t even remember shooting is the best feeling ever.

  • If you could be anywhere in the world with your camera right now, where would that be and why?

Middle of nowhere. Simply because I gave up on an idea that there is a perfect place or time to create. It’s easy to spend years waiting for it without really creating anything. I always try to make the best of what I have now.

  • If your photos shown here had a soundtrack, what song would be playing?

Onra - I Wanna Go Back

  • Could you tell us a bit about your upcoming work?

I’m going back to Europe for a couple of months. Besides my usual doodles in the streets and indoors, I’ll be contributing to a street art festival in Vilnius (my hometown) as well as Nuart festival in Norway. However, my main focus is my solo show which is due to open in Penang, January next year.

  • What are some of the most important things that inspire your street art?

People, places…

  • Kindly share and describe your favourite photo taken using your Sprocket Rocket.

I shot this photo (below) last week of a bunch photographers at the press conference in Penang. I was standing with the Chief Minister of Penang in front of my painting and they began greedily jumping over each other to take a picture of us. I feel very awkward in situations like this, so my first defence was to pull out the camera and shoot back at them… I love how the photo has captured the confusion it caused.

  • Who is your hero (in fiction or in real life), and why?

Cartman. Endless reasons.

  • Any advice for young artists out there?

Art is rubbish. Rubbish is art.
