Before we proceeded to the municipal auditorium to rehearse for the opening ceremony and concert of the 3-day music fiesta in Iloilo, the Mayor of Maasin graciously hosted a special lunch for the staff and delegates of Tunogtugan: 1st International Gongs and Bamboo Music Festival. His vacation house is located near the bamboo sticks factory which he owns and operates. He gave us a tour around the factory before we partake of the bountiful feast. Seeing how quickly a bamboo pole becomes a barbecue stick simply amazed all of us visitors. Also producing chop sticks and toothpicks, the humble factory in fact supplies all barbecue sticks of Mang Inasal, a Filipino fastfood chain famous for serving flavorful chicken barbecue among many delicious offerings that now has branches all over the Philippines.
