Australia Day is celebrated nation-wide on January 26th and commemorates the day the first fleet arrived in Sydney Cove, claiming Australia under British rule. On this day, you'll see a lot of green and gold and more southern-crosses than you will be able to count. This is my story about how my Australia Day was almost canceled last year.

In the past, I've missed jumping on the new camera or film bandwagon, meaning I’d miss the exciting frontier of trying out a product that everyone didn't already own. Pretty much any weekend, somewhere in Australia, you will find a classic car show. These classic cars make for great lomography fun with their different colours and shapes. The owners embody the same values as we do, as analogue lovers. I was lucky enough to be able to attend this annual show held at The Entrance in the Australian state of New South Wales.

For many years Burleigh Beach has been a go-to spot for my family in the state of Queensland, Australia. With wide open spaces away from the more tourist-ladden beaches of the Gold Coast, this spot is a favourite of surfers to the south, near the open waters at the heads, and popular with local families and exercise buffs to the north.

When I went to visit my friend in New Zealand, we also took a trip to Australia. We travelled from Brisbane to Sydney in a little camper. As we drove, we constantly saw these traffic signs warning us that we had to look out for passing kangaroos and koalas. We were really hoping we would see one but when this didn’t happen until we visited the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Fig Tree Pocket.

Most tourists who visit Australia try to visit Ayers Rock or Uluru. For some raeson, you hardly ever hear about the other big rocks nearby: The Olgas, or Kata Tjuta.

For Australia Day in 2012, we had a big celebration in a local park – lots of food, drinks, esky’s, sea baths, flags, sun-baking, rain-dancing, music, laughter, and most importantly cricket -- and this year we intend on doing it all over again!
