LomoAmigo Goh Nakamura Shoots with the LomoKino

LomoAmigo Goh Nakamura is a musician hailing from the beautiful city of San Francisco! Check out his interview and gallery after the jump!

Location: the Road (but usually the San Francisco Bay Area)

Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?
I’m a musician and recently became involved in filmmaking as an actor and writer. To pay the bills, I do session work when I can get it.
I used to teach guitar, but have been on the road for the past year, so have been on hiatus from that. I miss it.
My interests other than making music are walking around new places, cooking for people, watching/reading interviews, and “Instagramming.”

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?
I am a newborn Lomographer- specifically, a LomoKino Amigo. I am less than a month old, which is like half a frame in LomoKino years. I’ve been aware of the cameras for a long time, seeing them in shops and drooling over them. I did some research online and was happy to see so many people making beautiful analog movies, similar to the happiness when I hear people make beautiful analog music.

Describe the LomoKino in five words.

How did you like shooting with the LomoKino?
I liked it a lot. It made me feel like a kid; excited and full of wonder. I did feel a little sad each time the roll would end, but it gave me something to look forward to when I sent it off to get developed. I really didn’t know what I was doing, I have no photography or film knowledge, but it inspires me to learn it. I want to master it like an instrument. I want to be a Lomo Shredder.

Any funny or strange encounters you’ve had with it?
Yes. I didn’t notice the “little-red-flag-film-ending” indicator popping up at first, so I kept cranking. All the while, I was thinking: “This is going to be a masterpiece! Oh look at that cool bird swooping down, wow, just as that car drove by…” Then I realized that I didn’t get any of it because the film ran out 3 minutes ago. (sad trombone slide)

As a musician, who are your inspirations?
First and foremost, My mom. The classics: Beatles, Chopin, Otis Redding. Songwriters like Elvis Costello, Elliott Smith, Ron Sexsmith… Guitarists who push the envelop like Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Hendrix. There’s more music than there is time to listen to it, let alone absorb it in any meaningful way… but I love the constant state of discovery.

What specific part of San Francisco do you love the most and why?
The Mission is pretty hard to beat. You can have an awesome walk, drink some great coffee, catch a movie at the Roxie Theater, eat an amazing burrito, hold hands with someone in Delores Park, then end up at my favorite bar Doc’s Clock and play shuffleboard or play their awesome jukebox.

If you could shoot any person alive or dead (or imaginary) with your LomoKino, who would it be and why?
Kurt Vonnegut, because he’s a favorite writer of mine.

Any future plans with your LomoKino? More shoots or a full-length film perhaps?
Yes, definitely more shoots! I’m going to bring the camera with me to SXSW, and when I tour this year. I want to launch a project where a bunch of my talented friends shoot a bunch of footage, then we make some fun videos that I can play a live film score to. Perhaps some LomoKino users out there can send me stuff to score… A full-length collaborative film would be amazing… let’s make it happen. Can we make this happen?

Your advice to future LomoKino users.
