Elijah Wood shooting with the Lomo LC-A+
written by alexandrak on August 10, 2009 , 26 comments (21 votes)

What can we say to introduce Elijah Wood? To get him familiar with a new friend, the Lomo LC-A+ we made him our newest amigo. He answered a few questions about what’s coming up for him as well as where he took the photos in his gallery. Check it out!

REAL NAME: Elijah Wood
CITY: Los Angeles
COUNTRY: USA

How long have you been a Lomographer (or are you new to this whole thing)?
EW: I’ve been shooting with Lomo cameras for about 8 years. The LC-A was the first Lomo camera that I shot with and I have been a fan ever since.

Describe the LC-A+ in five words.
EW: Simple. Durable. Mysterious. Surprising. Rewarding.

The strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had.
EW: One of my favorite series of photos that I took were from an off-road trip I took in Baja, California a couple years ago. The terrain we drove through went from dusty desert to alpine mountains in the span of hours, which was incredible. The camera I was using had minor imperfections that made the results some of my favorite photos that I’ve taken. Fun trip as well.

If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please).
EW: Going Up The Country – Kitty, Daisy & Lewis
Don’t Let It Rain – Doris
In Time – Pentangle

If you could take your LC-A+ and a sack of film anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
EW: There are many places that I’d love to take the camera and a bag of film; on a road trip across the US, Prague, New Zealand. At the top of my list at the moment would be Japan and in particular the metropolis of Tokyo. I love that city and I’m constantly reaching for a camera whilst walking through it’s mad streets.

The one person (living or deceased) who you would most like to photograph.
EW: Jazz musicians in NY during the latter part of the 50’s. I’ve always loved the black and white imagery capturing that world during the growth of Jazz in our country. (That’s a difficult question, as my answer could change with the wind.)

Sorry, but we can’t resist… the LC-A+ is of course precious to Lomographers around the world. What are the most precious things in your life (besides your new LC-A+, of course)?

EW: My family and friends. Music collection. Collected memories.

Your gallery is really amazing, and we thank you for sharing such intimate photos with us. Tell us a little about where you were when you shot, and what’s the story behind the photos?
EW: Most of these photos were taken in Vermont in the North East Kingdom during a recent vacation with friends as well as time in Burlington with my girlfriend and Gogol Bordello. Quite a few of the photos chronicle my first experience with the game Stump, a game of hammering your opponents nails into a stump after first flipping the hammer and catching it. Brilliant. DJing with Jason Cooley at The Radiator; a shoot with my friend Shirley (easily one of the most photographable people I know); driving through the Vermont countryside with James; visiting Joe on the farm; jam session in a cabin by the lake; walking with James, Missy and Heloise; pizza; Bread & Puppets.

What’s on the horizon, Elijah? We’d love to know about any current or future project, film, adventure, or cause that has you buzzing.
EW: There is an excellent and unique animated film that I’m a part of, called 9 that will be coming out on September 9th. Working on various other things at the moment, from developing projects to produce and continuing to flesh out Simian Records. Also, simply enjoying the summer and ready to work on more new barbecue skills!

Your advice to future LC-A+ shooters.

EW: Don’t think too much. The camera kind of has a mind of it’s own and it’s happy accidents are often the best results. What’s great about the camera is how you can often be quite flippant with how you shoot and have surprising results.
