Wepler Restaurant, Paris

2

Great wines and oysters in the darkest part of Paris. We were recommended to go to Wepler by some Parisian gallerist that I know. She assured me it was the best place for fish. Queues at the door upon our arrival suggested a gem, and that couldn’t have been farther from the truth.

The oysters were good and so was the champagne. But the main course of John Dory arrived late and the ceremonious removal of the silver serving hood revealed the rather bland sight of John Dory accompanied by a stodgy pasta with a gravy-like sauce. To me, it looked like something a Soviet kindergarden would serve. The fish (obviously cooked from frozen) smelled faintly of seafood "on the turn". Wepler correctly removed these dishes from the final bill.

Saving grace: the wines were excellent (especially Mersault ) and we were well treated at the table. Good value too. We are still not sure what happened – was the chef in a bad mood? After we left the place, we realized that we were in the Moulin Rouge area. But it looked nothing like the famous movie starring Nicole Kidman. Apparently, it was a district of porn shops and peep shows. More on that in my next locations article.:)

The oysters looked so yummy! Sorry to learn about the awful fish dish. If you were a food critic, you could be some chef's nighmare. LOL! Good thing they did not charge you the cost of the John Dory in the end. I'm amazed with you being so gifted in photography, writing and what else? Keep nurturing your beautiful self!
