WE'RE VERY HAPPY

I’ve already had my flights booked for a much needed trip to the usa. it has been a while since I was there. a lot had changed in my life and I really needed a break. just get away for a while… and because I’m always drawn to the big city it was time to go back.
up to that point I never really had a big interest in taking pictures… I did like great photographs but taking pictures still didn’t seem that fascinating to me for some reason
I even had an actionsampler once because it seemed more fun than regular cameras yet I never ever put a film in it and used it… guess it wasn’t my time yet
but then before my trip I was at work looking at lomo cameras online and was so impressed by all the sample pictures that I decided I should get one for my vacation. I chose a diana f+ with a superwide angle lens and the 35mm back (120 film scared me cuz I’ve never seen it before)
the camera arrived only a few days before my trip so I didn’t even use it before I got to new york.

I remember getting up on the street from the subway at union square I instantly felt happy. happy being there, with all the many people walking around, all this big city energy… and it was a hot sunny day too :)

after a few days being there I accidently walked by the manhattan lomo store and was really excited by all the great stuff they had and all the lomowalls. it was very shortly after the diana mini came out because it hadn’t been online when I ordered my big diana and crazy as I am I just had to have one.
it seemed so perfect being 35mm and still doing squares. and of course being so small’n cute ;)
so I bought my 2nd camera before even shot a full roll in my first diana (I think it was only a few frames so far, I still had a digital camera at that time…)

I’ll always remember being back home after my trip and getting my first prints back and there it was, this picture – my first double exposure. I was really surprised cuz I didn’t even pay that much attention when I took it. I just liked the words in the shopwindow and then took another one from the hip…
I really love this picture because it always makes me remember how it feels to be walking the streets in new york with all the zillion people and how happy it made me feel…
