A Photographer’s Lifestyle Guide to Boston, USA

Boston is a city full of history, art and great food! Walk in the footsteps of American revolutionaries or try a world-famous cannoli in the North End neighborhood. There are beautiful gardens and brownstone homes, and something for everyone! We can’t wait to see what our Community thinks of Boston.

The Boston Common is considered America’s oldest park and was a gathering place for the colonial militia during the American Revolution. Step into a slice of history and admire the monuments, have a picnic, and of course, don’t forget your film camera. We recommend shooting in LomoChrome Turquoise to bring out the brilliant green hues of the park. Photo by toadsfotos

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is a must-see while in Boston, with its unique layout and an amazing collection of art. Isabella Stewart Gardner created the museum to both house her art, and become an art piece in itself. It was also the spot of one of the most notorious art heists, with 13 paintings still missing to this day. This is a perfect complement to the Museum of Fine Arts, and they are located just around the corner from each other! Photo by lunluochichu

The Boston Swan Boats are one of the city’s long-standing traditions, and offer a great perspective of the Public Garden. The boats have been operated since 1877 and were inspired by the opera “Lohengrin,” written by Richard Wagner, where a knight crosses the river while being pulled by a swan. They are a cultural landmark and perfect for experimenting with pictures of the water. Photo by milsa

Originally built in the 1820s as a residential street, Acorn Street, located in Beacon Hill, is a historic street and one of the most-photographed in Boston. It is named after the acorn trees that call it home, which many believe were planted by squirrels carrying acorns over from the nearby Boston Common. Try shooting with a wide-angle lens, like the LC-A+ to capture the whole street from different perspectives. Photo by jingl

The Boston Public Library is a perfect visit for our Lomographers who are also book lovers! It has quite the history, being the first free public library, as well as being the first library to lend books and have a children’s room. Bates Hall is probably the grandest room in the library, with the majority of it still decorated with tables and bookcases dating back to 1895. Try taking a panoramic shot with our Sprocket Rocket to capture the rows and rows of books! Photo by toadsfotos

Walk through history (literally!) on the Freedom Trail which is a 2.5 mile (4 km) path that connects 16 historic sites, such as the Paul Revere House, Faneuil Hall and Old Bunker Hill. It is a great way to see the city, while also learning about some of the most important sites of the American Revolution. Grab a Lomo’Instant Automat to take an instant picture of each site, and then piece them together afterward. The trail starts at Boston Common, then you follow bricks laid in the ground from site to site. Photo by bouquins
