A Photographer’s Lifestyle Guide to Belgrade, Serbia

Belgrade is one of the most fascinating cities for street photography in Central and Southeastern Europe. Its layered cityscape – from 19th-century facades to Bauhaus, brutalism, and bold contemporary forms – tells a story of constant reinvention. Street art, performances, and cultural events pulse through the city, blending heritage with a raw, modern energy that’s perfect for analogue exploration.

Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park are a must-visit – this historic fortress and the city’s largest park offers sweeping views over the Sava and Danube rivers. From Roman walls to Ottoman gates, the site is layered with centuries of history. Locals gather here to play chess, picnic, or bask in the golden-hour glow beneath the iconic Victor Monument. It’s the perfect place to slow down, reflect, and shoot wide. Photo by ste7000
Kalemegdan bb 11000, Beograd, Serbia
From Kalemegdan, stroll into Knez Mihailova – Belgrade’s main bustling pedestrian street lined with cafés, artisan stalls, and street performers. Just off the main path near Republic Square, you’ll stumble upon handmade goods, prints by local legend Dragiša Ćosić, and the Zepter Museum of Modern Art. Perfect territory for street photography.
Kneza Mihaila, Beograd, Serbia
Kalenić Green Market feels like a village inside the city. Beyond stalls stacked with figs, honey, and sun-warmed tomatoes, it offers a quiet poetry: tiled rooftops, handwritten price signs, and vendors wrapped in floral aprons. It’s a haven for early risers and analogue photographers chasing natural light, muted tones, and timeless street scenes. Photo by lazara

An iconic glass-and-steel structure on the banks of the Sava River, Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade is a landmark of modernism and a temple for Yugoslav, Serbian, and international 20th-century art. Expect bold retrospectives, conceptual statements, and a curatorial lens that bridges past and present. Don’t miss its offshoot space – The Salon near Kalemegdan – for a closer look at Belgrade’s contemporary pulse. Photo by laqe

Minimalist, monumental, and unapologetically concrete – New Belgrade is a dreamland for Brutalist architecture lovers. Shoot landmarks like the Western Gate, and explore with double exposures and wild angles using the Lomo LC-Wide. Or just chill at Ciklo Bar, a bike-friendly café with a repair station. Zapadna Kapija Beograda, Narodnih heroja, Beograd, Serbia
Often called the "Belgrade Montmartre," Skadarlija is a cobbled quarter steeped in bohemian spirit, lined with taverns serving traditional Serbian fare. With roots tracing back to the 19th century, it still pulses with live folk music and late-night conversations. Load up a classic film roll and take a slow wander. It’s pure cinema – especially with high-ISO or black-and-white stock like Lady Grey or Berlin Kino. Photo by shestakovitch_

Just around the corner from Skadarlija, Cetinjska 15 is a revamped industrial zone that echoes the spirit of Berlin’s Kreuzberg. Expect craft beers, bold exhibitions at Kula Cetinjska, and vinyl treasures at Elektropionir and Yugovinyl – all wrapped in unapologetic urban charm. Lomo 800 is your go-to for capturing its moody, after-dark energy. Don’t forget your flash to make those bold, punch colors. Photo by vozac100posto
