ATTENTION PLEASE!!!

can anyone or more of you tell me about how to take pics of star trails. setting and exposure time. tried this now several times but it did not work. would be nice if you could start a discussion here in the comment section. thanks in advance. this shot was taken with ISO 100, aperture f/22 exposure time 35 minutes. i guess i should have chosen f/11. what do you think? ah maybe you post your pics here and tell about the settings.

    I never try it but I guess the first thing is to find a really dark place with no luminous pollution

    I have not attempted this yet myself, but I have read that it works best when apertures are set to 4.5 and exposed for anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours - and facing North helps too. Good luck with your next attempt. I love the colors in this shot!

    @superlighter well it was really dark there. i took a shot at the same place just tuned the cam towards a valley. same exposure time except the cam was loaded with a portra160 and you could see the moon. the shot came out good but as it was lighter towards the valley you can´t see star trails. i´ll upload the shot these days and post it here.

    @mafiosa oh wow! thanks. i guess this one by michelle is helpful. i was on f/22 because of the long exposure time i wanted. but well: i was wrong. so i´ll try f/4,5 next time.

    Is this crossed processed? If so that's where the colour probably comes from, there must have been a little amibent light. I'd say try a larger aperture and don't cross process. :D
