I was on a mission to conduct a workshop on children's rights to rural kids of mountainous Canlaon. The bus trip from Dumaguete to the site took us almost 3 hours. Along the way, the bus stopped at several loading points with intermittent stops for alighting passengers. At the pick-up points, there were usually ambulant vendors selling different merchandise from ready-to-eat snacks (eg., rice cake, bread, fish crackers, fried camote or banana, candies) to food-items-to-cook (eg., fish, shells, seaweeds) to cigarettes. They showcased their products through the bus windows together with smiles and salestalk to entice buyers. As I was seated by the window, I had the vantage point to photograph them. Despite life's hardship, these people really work hard to earn a decent and honest living. My respects for hardworking Filipinos!
