After a 2 hour walk we reached the church "San Leonardo" made by a hermit called Pietro. The man went to live on the mountain, all by himself, in 1970. That's when he started to build his church. He's been at it for 42 years now and it's not yet finished. You'd think he'd go for a simple church, not too many angles. But no. He chose to make a beautiful church with impressive arches and a tower. The man is 85 years old and has had a triple bypass already. His back is arched because he had to carry all the stone and cement he used to build the church up the mountain by himself. The guy is incredibly cute and so so friendly. Too bad we didn't speak Italian so we couldn't have a decent conversation with him but we did bring over our praise as best we could. We brought him some bread and cheese because he lives from his vegetable garden and doesn't eat too much other things than what he grows himself. For me, this was the best part of my trip to Italy. I was just so impressed by this man and what he accomplished in those 42 years. I will definitely visit him again if I ever get the chance.
