Lomographic Milestones: It All Started 17 Years Ago

We've had 20 years of Lomography, and I've been a part of the movement for almost 17 years. But, I said "almost" because I had long breaks in between. Anyway, I think it's time to look back at those old pictures from the beginning. I have to admit I never made an effort to scan all my old pictures, but there are still a few of them. I think it's worth it to have a look at them.

Dunedin, the Most Scottish Town in New Zealand

Dunedin is one of the biggest cities in the south island of New Zealand and has a very Scottish identity. Through words - and of course, lots of analogue photographs, let me show you some of the main points of interest in this city!

    The Prospect of Whitby Pub

The oldest riverside inn in the UK, The Prospect of Whitby was founded in 1522 and is the UK's oldest surviving riverside inn. The original flagstone floor survives and the pub also has a rare pewter-topped bar as well as old barrels and ship masts built into the structure. Most areas of the pub have spectacular views over the River Thames, including the beer garden and first floor balcony and terrace.

UK CitySlicker Claire: The Otley Run - Leeds most (in)famous pub crawl!

So when we were given this month's CitySlicker task the first thing that sprang to mind as something that made me instantly think of Leeds, was the Otley Run. It is the first thing you are introduced to when you move here as a student, and it is the place where a lot of bonding takes place!

    Penny Lane Pub

There’s a little bit of Liverpool in downtown Richmond at Penny Lane Pub! Complete with courtyard area that’s mostly covered from the elements, great beer on tap, a selection of great food, pool tables, dart boards, and pub quizzes every Monday and Wednesday, you won’t want to go anywhere else for a drink! However… if you’re looking for a fru-fru drink with an umbrella, know that you’ve come to the wrong place. There is no blender in this pub!

Lo and behold at the Crestview Train Station is Black Star Coop Brewery and Restaurant. Found on the Metro line, it's the only cooperatively-owned brewery across the globe. Pretty amazing to have a Coop Brewery open to anyone in the Austin community. I had a fresh beer in one hand and my lomo cameras in the other. I was one happy Lomographer!

A famous pub in the north side of Manila, Philippines. Route 196 is located near Blue Ridge Katipunan, Quezon City. Though this has been known as a gig place, it is definitely more than just music and drinks. It is the alternate route to great music, food, and art.

    De Hems Dutch Pub

The first time I went to this pub was during the World Congress in 2007. A group of us were wandering around the Chinatown/SoHo area after the day's festivities and stumbled upon it after being disappointed that so many places closed early. De Hems is open until midnight all days of the week save for Sunday. What a happy surprise as this is a wonderful pub.

First of all, I would like to mention, that Koblenz is only the main town, where you can stay during your vacation trip to the land where two rivers - Mosel and Rhine - meet each other. The region has lots of castles and is especially beautiful in summer (you can see that last time I was there it was quite a cold spring). What to see? First of all, choose one of hundreds river-trips - you just have to get near the river and then you will see lots of advertisements.

I was just thinking how this summer I've spotted many more tourists in my home town than previous years and since there may be some lomographers among them it would probably be a good idea to point out a couple of tourist attractions in my town. Good bars and pubs should of course be first on this list.

Half of my family are from Kent, England and it's only in recent years that I have been able to visit. I've been there three times and I stayed at my Aunt and Uncle's house for part of the time. They live on the sleepy isle of Sheppey in south-eastern England, and I managed to stumble upon an analogue lover's dream while on a walk there one day.
