    My Lomo(love) Story

Exactly a year ago, that was around Christmas, I was stuck on doing “photoshop” actions until I discover this certain tutorial on how to make vignettes. This led me searching why such a photo can give this dark cornered area and how a camera can do it. I tried to take some photos using a digital but I can never accomplish those four, dark corners and always end up photoshopping my images.

    Lomowalk in Luneta Park

Once again, the lomomanila lomographers were itching for a quick lomowalk. The easiest and closest place to go was Luneta Park. There was a lot to see and to shoot in this historical landmark. Our National Hero—Jose P. Rizal—was executed here. Hence, this is also his final resting place. It is guarded by soldiers 24/7. The rigidity ends there because otherwise, anybody is free to roam around the big park and take pictures and have a good time with (camera) trigger-happy friends.

    Spreading the Lomo Love

"About a year ago, some members of Lomomanila were invited to give lectures on Lomography in popular universities in Manila. Such universities include De La Salle University, University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University. We were invited as part of the schools’ alternative program. This year, Lomomanila also went corporate. We were invited by the inhouse camera club of Hewlett Packard called “Shutters” to lecture on Lomography. It was well received and everybody had fun. We have several outstanding invitations to go back to some of the above universities to give the same lectures.

Tagaytay: Home of the cute volcano

I remember going to Tagaytay as a child on weekends. How my Mom and Pop would bring me there for stargazing, horseback riding, camping or just to enjoy the crisp cold air that’s a luxury in a tropical country. The hills of Tagaytay are situated approximately 45 minutes from Manila. Couples, Friends and Families usually trek to the place for a quick weekend escape from the trappings of the city.

    Bahay Kubo, Dagupan

A Bahay Kubo is a Traditional Filipino house possibly from the Spanish word “Cubo” or cube . My aunt had one made as a quick get away from troubles in the city. With the exception of a few concrete bases the entire construction is of dry straw and the ever dependable bamboo. But don’t let this pre-Hispanic form of architecture fool you. These traditional houses were perfectly suited to a country frequented by typhoons and earthquakes. They are normally elevated from the ground and the materials that are used could easily be gathered and used to rebuild the house just in case the forces of nature prove to be a handful.
