What are some tips for creating LomoWalls?

Planning to create your own physical LomoWall soon? Here are some tips to consider while making your version of a classic Lomography mosaic!

1. Come up with a theme

LomoWalls allow you to showcase your creativity, and one of the best ways to do this is to let your own LomoWall tell a story. The photos that you will be using, even the arrangement, could revolve around a theme which will make your LomoWall much more interesting, not to mention fun to create!

For example, community member Gaz Quickfall’s LomoWalls includes game-related themes, which reflects his creativity and interests.

2. Use different formats

When making LomoWalls, you can use different film formats such as 35 mm, 110, and 120 (square), or mix it up with panoramic photos. You can also play around with patterns to make your LomoWall as dynamic and whimsical as you want it to be. A tip for making elaborate LomoWalls is to measure your space beforehand and calculate the sizes that your photos need to fit into your space.

For example, a 91.1 × 61.0 cm panel could fit 81 photo prints sized 10.2 × 6.8 cm. Your space could be a wall itself (if you’re brave!), or a base such as a plastic or wooden panel, or other sturdy structures where you can stick your photos. For easier sticking, there are also readymade adhesive panels that will allow you to stick your pictures without the need for glue or tape.

3. Use geometric designs

A distinct characteristic of a LomoWall is its geometric designs, as seen in these LomoWalls created by our community members for exhibits and more. Printing photos multiple times in order to create a pattern allows a LomoWall to stand out, especially when the harmony of colors and texture in these images are considered in the designs. Typically, in a LomoWall, photos are repeated 7 to 9 times or more, especially for larger surfaces.
