FROM RIYADH TO VIENNA AND BACK

If anyone remembers the Bond film, "From Russia with Love", that dramatic scene on a Friday afternoon, Bond and the Russian cypher clerk racing through the empty station at the last minute ... heh, the reality was, as we found, the 'guest wporkers' go home for the weekend. It was wall to wall shoulders and a Cecil B. deMille casgt of thousands, so to speak.

Probably just an ordinary picture, but with it's muted, faded colors, it does have a nostalgic air.

It was 1970. I'd finished a year's contract in Riyadh; we flew to Jiddah and then Istanbul. Several days there and on the old Orient Express. I think that was in Bulgaria and it was Easter weekend.
