For quite some time now, I've been used to handling the Zenit 11 with a Helios-44M f2/58mm lens. Shooting some models require a much more higher manual camera versus a point-and-shoot, much like the LC-A or any other toy cameras.

Nikonos V – The Ultimate Amphibious Camera

The Nikonos V is an amphibious non-reflex 35mm camera. I’m proudly presenting here a review of a super-amazing camera: The Nikonos V. It’s ‘V’ (five) because it’s the fifth of its series (btw you should check the four previous versions, they’re very cute…). Nikonos must be a play on words between Mykonos (the Greek island) and Nikon… But I’m not so sure about that… It’s the first camera I ever bought; I was 16, and looking for a good underwater camera. Yes, I started photography by underwater photography (check the lomotip: “underwater Holga”)…

  • Kodak Instamatic 33

    Kodak Instamatic 33

The Kodak Instamatic Camera is a camera which was developed in the 1960s to simplify the use of film. The idea was to put in and out a film without any problems because the insertion of normal film often caused troubles. Even professional photographers did it wrong sometimes so that a whole series of their photos was destroyed. So Kodak developed the cassette film (126 film) a rather cheap alternative to usual film at this time, and the above mentioned Instamatic camera. You just have to insert the cassette into the camera – the film transport starts when you turn the film transportation wheel. There is only one producer who still builds 126 films: the Italian company Ferrania. The trade name of the film is Solaris. The format is square and it has 24 exposures. They don’t produce black and white film or slide film anymore.

    Lomo "Music" Amigos: Tahiti 80

Tahiti 80 got their start in the mid-90's somewhere between Rouen and Paris, drawing their name from a souvenir T-shirt slogan. After a few teeth-cutting EP's they released Puzzle in 1999, followed by Wallpaper for the Soul in 2002 and Fosbury in 2005. Their latest effort, Activity Center, shows them going back to the roots of classic pop songwriting with a rougher sound. Tahiti 80's new album will be out by the end of 2008.

Lomo Amigos de Musica: Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids began in the Fall of '04 with jangly guitar, hand claps, and a Harmony amp in a storage room atop Mulberry Street restaurant in Fullerton, CA. Since then, Cold War Kids have self released 3 six-song EP's on Monarchy Music, and toured relentlessly. Much like Blue Note Artists of the '50's, the music of the group walks hand in hand with its graphic design. Bass player Matt Maust is responsible for creating the visual aesthetic by constantly documenting the band, friends, strangers, and situations both on tour and at home.
