Earlier this week, rock music fans around the world celebrated Freddie Mercury’s birthday; the iconic and flamboyant singer-songwriter would’ve been 65 years old. To celebrate, let’s put on our headphones and pay tribute to one of the most respected bands in rock history – Queen!
Who doesn’t know Queen? They had a distinct sound powered by Brian May (guitars), Roger Taylor (drums), John Deacon (bass) and most especially Freddie Mercury, who could hit over a four-octave range. They experimented with vocal harmonies and fused their musical influences – ranging from gospel to ragtime to opera – to create music that has influenced many acts, such as The Flaming Lips, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Foo Fighters, among others.
September 5, 2011 marked Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday. Let’s pay a little tribute to rock music’s most dramatic and enigmatic frontman! Hats off, headphones on – here’s a couple of classic songs from Queen:
Somebody to Love
Play the Game
(and of course) Bohemian Rhapsody
