Congratulations to erdnusskeks, one of the Make Your Prophecy Competition finalists! Read on to see her winning artwork and find out why she chose to represent the prophecy she did…
Why did you choose the prophecy you chose? What does this prophecy mean to you?
The most important word in Prophecy #10 for me is the word “home”.
Home isn’t necessarily only one place, but it’s all the places you feel comfortable at; “home is where your heart is”- and home is therefore the place where you have joy, fun, love, yes, also sex :). Honestly, a place where you feel comfortable at, where you can do the things you want to do- isn’t that paradise? It is.
I bet all lomographers in this community know what I am talking about when I say that lomography makes us feel at home. It makes us enjoy and love things, it makes us come together, it makes us discover the world.
I made so many great experiences just because of this attitude- full of curiosity, I challenged myself and experimented with cameras and films, I bonded with people in different countries (even continents!) who are also into lomography, and even in places I thought I knew inside out, I discovered something new through the lens of a plastic camera.
Home is where your heart is- and the home of all lomographers out there is lomography.
Why did you choose to represent it as you did?
“The analogue future is the HOME of a whole lot of love, joy, fun, sex and… paradise!”- that’s what Prophecy Number 10 says. How does such a home look like? How can the analogue future be a home to so many wonderful things?
I decided to take it literally and painted a whole HOUSE in Munich with the Prophecy Of The Analogue Future #10. And it is not only a random house, it is my personal home in Munich; the place I live in- and I turned it into a representation of things I love.
Since the creation of the video, I planted sweetcorn and sunflowers all around the bungalow, so now it looks even more lively, creative and, above all, colourful. It makes such a huge difference if a bungalow is just grey or if it is painted- I feel that this bungalow really turned into my home now.
If any of you lomographers out there happen to be in Munich one day, stop by and say hello! :)
As I couldn’t send in the whole bungalow for the Lomography Competition ;), I decided to document the bungalowpainting via video. Even during the videorecording process, I tried to stick to the analogue message- so I used a videocamera for the recording which recorded everything on a tape instead of a memorycard. The background music comes from Heiner Hendrix, a friend from Munich, who got the inspiration for the song as he was watching a polaroid picture develop.
What do you think would be a good 11th Prophecy?
I was thinking about a good 11th Prophecy for a pretty long time. I feel that two things are really important:
Firstly, you can be part of something big with lomography. You can come together and be creative, you can expose film rolls together, do lomowalks, swap cameras- and you can show the world that it’s easy to make your life more colourful; more playful.
This leads me to my second point: be playful. No matter where you are, who you are, what you are doing- there will always be something you can take pictures of. Give excitement to your life with lomography. Take pictures, experiment with cameras and films, meet up with people, be active- don’t wait for excitement to come, be the excitement.
My 11th Prophecy would therefore be: Make the World Your Playground!
