Chateau Marmont is not just a famous hotel in the Hollywood heights but also a French electronic band. If you don’t know them yet, read this interview to follow Angy, his band, and his Sprocket Rocket on their last tour in Indonesia and Germany!
Name: Angy Laperdrix
Please tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m a musician and a member of Chateau Marmont. I’m also a sound engineer for Tahiti 80 , which lets me travel a lot. I live in Paris and I spend most of my time in recording studios, and quite a lot at the Pop in.
How did you get into photography ?
Since I was a child, my parents shot a lot of pictures with a Nikon F2, which happened to ba a fascinating object. I kept it when they switched to digital.
How long have you been a lomographer or are you new to this whole thing?
I discovered Lomography a couple of years ago, when a friend bought a Diana on a tour in Japan, But I’m totally new to this, I went on this tour with a Diana, an LC-A and a Sprocket Rocket lent by my friend from the Paris’ shop. I’m getting to know the subject quite well since my friend JB is the Franz Liszt shop manager (I quite enjoy having drinks at the shop, too).
If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please)
Gate 33 – Tahiti 80
Monodrama – Chateau Marmont
I’m not moving – Phil Collins
f you could take your camera and a sack of film anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
Right now, I would go somewhere hot and sunny, because Paris under the rain in July sucks. And picture come out better when it’s sunny. So why not check out the Mayan temples in Guatemala.
Tell us a bit about this series of pictures
Touring with a band is a great way to take pictures. Different places everyday, meeting new people, not much sleep, drinks, laughs… In this case, we toured in Indonesia and in Germany, which is an original roadmap…
I’ve had lots of fun with these 3 cameras, I tried things, and (some) results are surprising. The Sprocket Rocket is incredible.
What are your current projects ?
Finish the Chateau Marmont album by the end of summer. Then, we have to prepare a USA tour which will start around the end of September. We’ll be travelling one month on the road, which will give us plenty of time to take pictures…
Your advice to all lomographers ?
Think different. Just do it. Yes we can.
The Sprocket Rocket is the first wide-angle camera dedicated entirely to sprockets. And with dual winding knobs for easy multiple exposures, there is no limit to your analogue creativity with this panoramic wonder. See the Sprocket Rocket in our Shop!
