Abandoned plants and mills

Close to Lisbon, in the south side of Tejo River you find an industrial city called Barreiro. It is a city that during many years lived of the great plants and industries that in middle of the 60’s had been built there. Currently already almost all the plants have been locked up or are not active, but the city continues with the heavy inheritance of being one of the places most polluted of the country.

Its population works in the great majority in the other side of the river, in Lisbon. Every day thousands of people cross the calm waters of the Tejo by boat or by car taking one of the two bridges that join the south side to the capital. The Barreiro is a city with little interest and a town-planning without care however it has a fantastic sight of the river and Lisbon.

Inexplicably the downtown zone it is not well-taken care, and in some places even abandoned. It is what it happens in the zone of the old mills, a long time a go abandoned and not active. It is a charming hiding place though it has suffered throughout the years because of the forgetfulness of the politicians and the population. It could be a green zone with bars and areas of leisure, but it is a forgotten and abandoned place, where some children play secretly away from their parents.
