TIFF Bell Lightbox: The heart of Toronto’s Tinseltown

True to its name, the TIFF Bell Lightbox is a giant box in the heart of the city filled with things to satisfy any cinema lover: exhibits, screenings, a store, and movie theaters. Read more to check out why this is a must-see for Hollywood’s top celebrities whenever they visit the city.

If you think of a giant box filled with light when you hear the name—you’re got it right. Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox celebrates all things cinema within the modern architecture in the heart of the city on King Street West.

The Lightbox is home of the Toronto International Film Festival, which is the city’s most prestigious event. Every year for two weeks in September, film enthusiasts and celebrities flock from all over the world to check out the best new films, which usually go on to win Oscar Awards.

Designed by a local architectural firm, the Lightbox has a clean and simple design. The lobby is spacious with high ceilings, a multi-story projection wall, and main floor gallery for special exhibitions.

At the gift store, movie buffs can find books about favourite celebrities and the history of cinema, as well as DVDs, keychains, and Lomography cameras.

The red lining along the double escalators are like red carpets that guide you to the luxurious movie theatres on the second floor, which are open all year long for film screenings.

Since opening its doors in September 2010, the TIFF Bell Lightbox has already housed some exciting exhibits. Tim Burton’s Retrospective exhibit was here for several months showing several film installations, sculptures, and drawings from the famous director.

The current feature exhibit is Fellini: Spectacular Exhibits, which spotlights the extraordinary world of the great Italian director Federico Fellini. Lomography has recently joined together with TIFF Bell Lightbox to celebrate the spirit of Fellini’s paparazzi photography.

The contest asked for users to submit shots that capture the aesthetic of candid paparazzi photography inspired by artists like Fellini, in the Lomography style.

The photo by disdis will be on display at the TIFF Bell Lightbox location until September for visitors and moviegoers to see.
