Have you always wanted to photograph a troll, gypsy or someone from the Middle Ages? Then you should definitely cross the borders of your own fantasy and spend a day at Castlefest.
Summer is the time for colourful fantasy festivals. People dressing up for the day or the weekend so they can be someone else for a little while. A troll, a fairy, a gypsy, someone from medieval times, something green – think of something and you can be that for the day.
There are more festivals like this but August is for Castlefest in the Keukenhof in Lisse. The mood among the visitors is great compared to the daily mood in a regular city. Before you know it, you’re talking to a Victorian lady who is doing business with a monk while in the background a knight is saving the world from a hoard of wild children.
But the most beautiful thing of course is the opportunity to photograph a diverse group of people while having the feeling you’re taking a walk through the fantasy-section of the library.
Did you miss it this year? Then there’s always the Midwinter Fair at the Archeon in December and the Elf Fantasy Fair in April. Castlefest will come again to Lisse in August 2012.

Solène Ballesta is a Parisian photographer who started photography at 15 years old. This talented photographer was awarded in 2014 by the special mention of the young fashion photography Picto Awards. In her shots, Solène drives us to an enchanted world. For this series, she used the Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens and she's telling us the story of a woman who is waiting for someone or something in her small theater and who decides to venture to the morning mist. “It is the uncertainty that charms one. A mist makes things wonderful.” said Oscar Wilde.
