Diana F+, The Beautiful Bird

With shell so fragile and spirit so true / wings that spread like whispers and take to the wind / graceful and illusion / forgotten moments lost / captured small squares.

I have written a few camera reviews here of non-Lomography cameras, in part because I was too shy to write anything about my first love, Diana F+. She came to me about 4 months ago, and has been winking at me from the shelf since. We go out on dates occasionally, slipping silently into fields and playgrounds, delighting in each other’s company. But I felt our relationship is too intimate to share to the world, so I’ve been reviewing other cameras instead.

But now it’s time for a long overdue review. She is elegant and fragile, delicate beyond words, with a simplicity like stone, she holds mysteries deep in her lens. Every moment a poem in her arms, like musk from a forgotten lover, drifting lazily on the breeze. She catches you by the nostrils and forcefully pulls your attention to forgotten corners and places overlooked. So much at your feet, how little we notice the world around us. Like fairies in the trees, she haunts us from the corners, her sly smile luring you on still.

Carrying a Diana is an experience unto itself, she is not like other cameras, unyieldy and heavy contraptions of steel and plastic. She is a plastic shell but so much more, holding her is to hold a baby bird, so fragile and so resilient. The sharp click of her shutter is like a tear in consciousness, she brings you gently into this moment, where streams mumble and trees sigh into the wind. Who knows what mysteries she’s seen?

I believe that Diana is so much more than a camera, she has an energy, a consciousness that can take more than pictures and show you more than your eyes can see. She is the inspiration behind so many poems, and so many more to come.

The Diana F+ is a new twist on the ‘60s classic cult camera. Famous for its dreamy and soft-focused images, the Diana F+ is now packed with extra features such as panorama and pinhole capabilities. Available in our Online Shop.
