The P-Sharan SQ-35... DIY Pinhole Magic

Being relatively new to Lomography and photography I`m being constantly amazed by the immensity of interesting products and techniques that constantly assault my senses! One of those techniques was the old and trustful pinhole photography, and shortly after purchasing my trusty Diana F+ Hong Mew I did my first experiments with it. My results were a mixed blessing… I got some pretty amazing pictures, but I also got a lot of badly exposed negatives, so I finally decided to stop wasting medium format film on my Diana and embraced the “don`t think, just shoot” rule with all my heart and completely forgot about the pinhole… until I found the P-Sharan SQ-35!

The P-Sharan is a DIY paper pinhole camera, that shoots 24mm x 24mm negatives on 35mm film. It comes on a cardboard box with everything you need to assemble it (except perhaps for a sharp knife and a pair of scissors) and it will only take you about 2 hours to assemble it completely and start taking your first pictures.
After assembly, it is a very user friendly camera, featuring an exposure guide on the back and, contrary to what you may be expecting being made of paper, is a very robust camera (although I always carry mine inside a tupperware).

The P-Sharan SQ-35 features 4 types of different looks for your pictures, having a soft focus filter (that you can choose to use or not) and 2 different pinholes: a normal pinhole that gives you the sharp dreamy look of pinhole photography; and a starburst pinhole that enhances natural light sources giving them a starburst effect! Also, as in a lot of cheap cameras out there, its advance and… hmm… shutter (ok, it has no shutter, you just lift a piece of paper!!!) are not coupled, so you can double, or triple, or whatever expose your film at will!! All in all… its a lot to get for a cheap paper DIY pinhole camera! Plus… it comes with 8 different stickers so you can customize it to your will :-D

I got mine just a couple weeks ago, and with all the work and bad weather I still managed to shoot an entire roll of Kodak ProFoto 100, getting 25 delicate square pictures that left me breathless while I was scanning them (… my wife allmost dialed the 112, the European emergency number, a couple of times), and that I had to share with all of you.

Just take a look and tell me what you think… I promise that if you get one of these you wont ever regret it!
