In case you can’t get yourself to an actual beach or pool this summer, why not head out to Robert Mann Gallery in NY and visit its At the Water’s Edge exhibition? It includes both historical and contemporary images, so it will surely tickle your fancy one way or another.
The shoreline and the swimming pool have provided numerous photographers with inspiration. So this summer, the people at Robert Mann Gallery in New York have decided to tackle just that. The exhibition features photos by Alfred Stieglitz, Joe Deal, Fred Stein, David Vestal, and Harry Callahan amongst others.
As in the case of the photos of Harry Callahan and Mary Mattingly, at this exhibition, analogue and digital collide in an ethereal world that suggests the precariousness of the environment and the mysteries that float at the water’s edge.
The people at the gallery stated that ‘from playful fantasies and humorous cuts of the human comedy to contemplative abstractions, the works on display offer a welcome break from summer squalor!’ and I think they’re right, but of course, you’re encouraged to go and form your own opinion about it.
At The Water’s Edge @ Robert Mann Gallery, 210, Eleventh Ave., Floor 10, New York, NY 10001, is open until the 26th August 2011. For further info visit: www.robertmann.com.
