Bajouca Rockspot Festival

2011-08-28

“I fell in love with the sweet sensation/I gave my heart to a simple chord/I gave my soul to a new religion/Whatever happened to you?/Whatever happened to our rock’n’roll?/Whatever happened to my rock’n’roll?”…I’ll tell you what happened!

Let’s have some rock and roll! Every year, near the city of Leiria, in a place called Bajouca, there is a small rock festival that promotes young, unknown bands nationally and can ensure that the Portuguese rock bands (or foreign) are already in "movement”. And there we can find some good surprises!

The festival lasts for just a few hours divided into two days, but two intense days which become a meeting of sorts for young guys in a small enclosure where there’s never lack of food, beer, shots, music, and solidarity. Yup, the cherry on the top of the cake! We can satisfy our hunger (and thirst) and rock at the same time that we are more willing to contribute money to an association of children with cerebral palsy. Another good reason to consume as much beer or juice as you can (or maybe only beer)!

How to Develop Photos on Stone in a Darkroom

I have always loved the idea of seeing my photos on stone and other natural materials. So, a few months ago, I began googling how it could be done. This is how I discovered (and fell in love with) liquid emulsion. Liquid emulsion is photographic emulsion which you can melt down and paint on any surface. You can then expose an image and develop it using traditional darkroom chemicals. In this article, I would like to explain the process a little, so that if you are also interested in giving this fun process a go, you can!

Long Exposures Around Europe with the Minitar-1 Art Lens

One of the things I like the most about the Minitar-1 Art lens is how sharp the focus can be when you shoot with a small aperture. So if you are one of those that like to shoot at night, get a tripod, add this to a late dark winter afternoon, and you will end up with a bunch of beautiful long exposures. This is what I did on my last trip to Europe.

Estonian Intersections of Sight and Sound

Would you rather lose your vision or your hearing? As photographers, we might choose the latter without a second thought, especially while viewing the festival photos that photographer Mart Vares captured with the New Petzval 85 Lens. Still, who doesn’t love the pleasant mechanical shutter sound of an old SLR that makes us commit to analog photography? While following the Nordic delegation at this years Waves Central Europe, we caught up with the Estonian band, Würffel, whose songs leave us feeling equally delighted.
