Almost any weekend from spring through fall, you can find a street blocked off and lined with vendors selling their wares and food to residents and visitors of New York City.
When you are wandering around the city and stumble upon a street fair, stop and enjoy! First, where can you walk down the middle of any street in NYC and not have to worry about cars. Second, it’s a great place to discover some cheap finds and interesting street food.
Street fairs happen every weekend all over the city. If you are looking for one you can check out Time Out New York, http://www.newyorkstreetfairs.com, http://www.newyorkled.com/nyc_events_Street_Fairs.htm, or just keep wandering, you will eventually stumble upon one!
What I love about street fairs is that you can find almost anything from I <3 NYC t-shirts, jewelry, sunglasses, clothes, to handbags. Many are local artisans selling their homemade work and, of course, a few importing from China. They offer the lowest prices I’ve seen on pashmina scarves, so you can buy one in almost every color!
When it comes to food, it’s all about eating and walking. There are corn on the cob, meat kabobs, crepes, cookies, fried dough, and even teriyaki balls!
So, when you find one, stop and explore, and don’t forget to shoot away!
