Old Delhi streets are filled with the smell of Persian perfume, sweets, and the buzz of people. The walls and doors are colored with deep tones of red, yellow, and blue. And when you’re with a beautiful girl looking ever so gorgeous, how could one resist them and not take but a few pictures?
Lesly has been my friend for more than a year now. She is beautiful, amazingly talented, and (for some reason) really shy — which is cute in a way because it always leads to her looking all quiet in pictures which I personally love.
She is a fashion blogger by the name of Lazymanxcat and I have wanted to take pictures of her for quite a long time but was never able to get a chance to do so. Finally when I met her to work on the Lomo Amigo (YES! Lesly is going to be featured in our Lomo Amigo Section from India in the coming week) we decided to shoot some pictures too.
Lesly has a very chic contemporary style. And what could be more contrasting to it than the old streets of Delhi or Dilli. We drove down to Connaught Place and then took the metro to Chandni Chowk (the travel part was a little painful, rush hour).
But Chandni Chowk has just so much to offer. Small tiny streets with blue doors and red windows. Small shops with great dim lighting and just a spread of stuff which is unique and a bit quirky. We did gather a small crowd when shooting but it didn’t become really huge because people couldn’t understand if I was using a camera or was I looking at something else (I was using a Hasselblad so I was looking down my waist and not at Lesly)
And the shots came out amazing. Colors fused with Lesly’s incredibly pretty face and delicate lines made the day for me. Now all I need is to go out and replinish my stock of Provia (and a little bit of Trix)
Just thought before I end, I should add some tips for photographers. Always good to learn something out of a article :
- Most fashion or portrait photographers have a time limit on shoots, don’t do that. Pictures should come to you, they can’t be forced out.
- Think of contrasting situations, make pictures dramatic.
- Eyes, that is the most important. Nothing else matters in the face.
- When is the last time you did something new. Reinvent.
- One who says digital is more for fashion than film, smack them!
