Russian church

The Russian community in Nice has always been important since the second half of XIXth century. Nice began its career as a touristy city and the English and Russian people were the first to be attracted by the “angel bay” (“baie des anges”) of Nice. Among the Russian community was the mother of the Russian Tzar Nicolas II, Marie Feorodovna and she fell in love with this city. 1903 she decided to build an orthodox Russian church.

This church has the typical Russian style and is a beautiful monument in a little nice park where the people come to relax and sunbathe. I knew this place since a long time but only went to take pictures of it a few months ago. The weather was so sunny and the whole place had some magic in it. The colours and the mood was great, the architecture of the building is fascinating with the different straight lines combined with the curves of the dome. The little park is very relaxing, sun is coming out through the palms, and people sitting on benches. Really a great place you must visit if you come to Nice :)

The official address is avenue Nicolas II (next to Boulevard Tzarewitch), no number because only the church is in this avenue… To find it it’s easy: from the central railway station (avenue Thiers), follow the avenue Thiers to the west, direction avenue Gambetta. Then go to the right on avenue gambetta, under the railway bridge, and directly after on the left: you’re on Bd Tzarewitch, and 300m after, on your rught, you see the church. You can’t miss the building! And everybody in Nice knows where it is….but few people talk english!! ;)
