Through Berlin with Uslu Airlines: Torstraße and Kreuzberg

Feride Uslu and Jan Mihm are the two founders of the luxury cosmetics brand Uslu Airlines. After 10 years in New York, they moved to Berlin where they drive the airports of the world from their cockpit above the roofs of Torstraße. Here they show us what Torstraße in Berlin-Mitte and Kreuzberg have to offer.

1. Maison Mallon
In David’s cave, there are more candles than on a Christmas Tree especially in July. The wax holders he uses once contained a substance from a very different kind of ‘cave’. Guess what?! Cheers!
Location: Torstrasse 76, 10119 Berlin-Mitte

2. SoTo
Three homies have pitched their tent on Torstraße and every man on the planet is better off for it. Small, selective, swagger. The checkout is run by a Swiss lady (she accepts plastic) or an Israeli dude (he wants cash). bq. Whazever thaz meanz.

Location: Torstrasse 72, 10119 Berlin-Mitte

3. Rosenburger
Hands down the best burgers in Mitte. And, second only to Burgermeister in Kreuzberg, these are the best meat-buns this side of Manhattan. Chef Turabi will show you the beef!
Location: Brunnenstraße 196, 10119 Berlin-Mitte

4. Dandy of the Grotesque
An absolute gem for the real gentleman. Tailor-made garments from the elaborate hand of Itamar.
Location: Gormannstr. 17b, 10119 Berlin-Mitte

5. 36 Boys
Gangsta styles for real: at the turn of the century, 36boys was to Kreuzberg (whose postal code was 36 at the time) what the Crips are to LA or the Latin Kings are to Harlem. Now it’s a label run by the same thugs that hang with boxer Muzaffer “Muci” Tosun! Check it out and represent. No need to bring a piece. Peace.
Location: Adalbertstr. 4, 10999 Berlin-Kreuzberg

6. VOO
Three letters, one meaning: Kreuzberg is the shit! There are fewer broke screenwriters than in Prenzlberg, fewer uniformed fashion fags than in Mitte, fewer Nazis than in Marzahn. Street culture without a contents list. Ingrid and Yasin have put the cherry on this cake. For you, voo.
Location: Oranienstrasse 24, 10999 Berlin-Kreuzberg

7. Van Doren
As a former whorehouse, run by no less than Berlin’s most prominent hooker, Molly Luft, this neighborhood bar has probably got a shed load of good stories to tell. Great drinks mixed by sexy hustlers Bram, El and Jakob. On to the stats: Molly Luft died at the age of 66, by which time she had intercourse with about 90,000+ men…
Location: Blücherstr. 17, 10961 Berlin-Kreuzberg
