A perfect night in the city of Porto: one of my favourite bands in an awesome stage in one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal.
The Young Gods is one of my favourite bands since I was a teenager, I have seen them in other concerts before but this was the first one I took my cameras with me, for this concert I used a Yashica Electro GSN loaded with 800 ISO film and my concert camera, a Cosina CX-1 loaded with 400 ISO film.
The concert took place in the new Hard Club, right in the middle of historical Porto City. The Hard Club is an old market place, it is a magnificent stone building with a beautiful iron top painted in bright red. It is quite impressive. The inside of Hard Club is very modern, it has a great concert room with remarkable acoustic and superb lighting; it is, without a doubt, one of my favourite places to see small concerts.
At first I was a bit worried about bringing the cameras with me, I was afraid that the security would want to keep them until the end of the concert but it was OK, they let me in along with my cameras and said that I could take all the shots I wanted.
First I grabbed my Yashica Electro (loaded with 800 ISO film) and started shooting but I had to pay very close attention to the meter, aperture, and compensations. I ended up losing a bit of the concert and the shots were terrible, I used Kodak Supra 800 film for the first – and last time. The film is horrible, very grainy and with bad colours:
Then I grab my Cosina CX-1 (loaded with 400 ISO film) and continued to shoot; this time, I didn’t need to worry about any settings, I was 1.5 meters away from the lead singer so the distance was fixed and I could start enjoying the concert and shoot at the same time, this time the shots turned out amazing, great colours, no blurry shots and I was close enough to capture every detail:
After the concert, it’s time to go out and enjoy the magnificent night that Porto has to offer, the Hard Club is very near to the historical bars, you just have to walk a few meters to the first bars. This was a remarkable concert and I will always remember it as one of the best concerts ever.
